New Faculty Orientation continues! Faculty consider mentorship in the basic sciences

Dr. Anne West, MD, PhD led faculty in a fantastic discussion of what it means to be a PI and a mentor. The presentation considered what a mentor is (and what qualities make a good mentor) in light of the numerous leadership challenges a PI might face. Getting Promoted in the Basic Sciences

  On 3/22/23, Dr. Cynthia Kuhn, Professor of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology, spoke to new faculty about the processes and strategies to get promoted in the basic sciences. The seminar "Appointments, Promotion, and Tenure (APT) in the Basic Sciences" was part of SOM Academic New Faculty Orientation series.

"AugMENTing Mentoring: Getting the Most out of your Mentoring Relationships"

  On 3/9/23, new faculty participated in the SOM New Faculty Orientation session "Mentoring for Clinicians/Clinician-Educators". This session identified career pathway and milestones at Duke, listed strategies for aligning expectations and communicating effectively with mentors, and identified tools and resources at Duke to assist new faculty at Duke outline a path to academic independence.
